This Week I listened to "Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands."
What is the book about?
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands By Heather Fawcett is a cozy adventure fantasy book that you won’t want to miss. It is the second book in the Emily Wilde Series. It starts off in Cambridge England at the university where Emily and Wendell work. Emily is rushing to meet Wendell for breakfast so that he doesn’t bring the breakfast to her and make the university smell like eggs. She thinks that she might have found Wendell’s back door to his faerie kingdom. Before they set off on their journey to the Austrian Alps, where the back door might be located, Wendell is attacked by assassins that were sent by his evil step mom. Are Emily and Wendell able to fight the assassins, find the back door and overthrow Wendell’s step mom to secure his right full spot as King?

What are my favorite things?
During the breakfast with Emily and Wendell we find out that the previous night was Wendell’s birthday. There are small slip ups with Wendell’s magic, like how he accidentally turns Emily’s tea into Faerie tea. They think that this is because Wendell has a hang over from his birthday party, so Wendell goes back to his apartment to take a nap before he has to present his lecture. Emily is confronted by Dr. Farris Rose about how he thinks Emily’s Encyclopaedia was faked because she finished it with Wendell’s help. (He doesn’t have good credibility because of one paper) Rose is trying to prove himself right. He decides to sit in on Wendell’s lecture. During the lecture Wendell is hunted by the first round of Faerie Assassins, and Wendell asks Emily to throw a pencil his way and we find out it was enchanted to turn into a sward. That wasn’t the only thing Wendell enchanted. I like that we get to see what Wendell can do with his powers in this book. This is also accompanied by more wonderful imagery that is used in this book. Like when were on the train we find out that Wendell was poisoned and one of the side affects is that it is hard to control his magic, like when Wendell is sleeping and the train car gets covered with branches and vines and we see birds flying under his skin.
What are my dislikes?
With this book I didn’t feel like we got enough interaction with the residents of St. Liesl as well as we did in the other book. Also there was a tiny loop hole or something. Roland was one of the farmers at St. Liesl and he knew where Dani (the founder of the nexus) went missing. He let the crew borrow sheep skin coats to wear while they went up the mountain. After the first trip they never mention the coats again. There are other small things like this throughout the book but overall I do not think this hurt the story line of the book at all.
My final thoughts?
I liked this book more than the first book. I feel like it moved through the story a little bit faster and it was more entertaining to read. I think that this book would be a great fall read since that is when it takes place. It is suitable for people who are 13 years old or older.
